Tineke Floral Designs
Tell us a bit about yourself and your business?
I’ve been interested in flowers since the age of 11 and launched Tineke in 2001. I am very proud of our passionate and enthusiastic team who all share the same love and values as me. We have been privileged to help create so many stunning weddings and win numerous weddings industry awards including national best wedding florist.
What inspired you to become a florist?
I have always had an avid interest in flowers for as long as I can remember! I just love working with them and seeing how many different varieties of flowers are available.
What do you enjoy most about floristry, but also the clients you work with?
I love bringing people’s visions to life and creating their dream wedding flowers
What does a typical wedding day look like for you, if there is ever a typical wedding?
The process on the run up to a typical Saturday wedding would start a couple of weeks before with pre orders being made for certain flowers from Columbia and Holland. The Monday would see us finalising the order for the fresh flowers. Depending on the designs and flowers, we could have fresh deliveries over the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday- all of which we lovingly condition and inspect each and every stem. This gives us time to sort any quality issues if any arise. We would begin installing and making over the Thursday and Friday with finishing touches made on the wedding morning.
How does the design process work and where do you begin?
We normally meet with couples early on to get a feel for their wedding. Normally we can get a good idea from here, and normally meet another 1 or 2 times to finalise the details.
What advise would you give to a couple who are trying to select flowers for their big day?
It's always best to stick with seasonal flowers for quality and cost
What is your favourite flower?
Oooo changes weekly! Always adore a simple vase of white British grown stocks- the scent is amazing!
What’s the most flowers you’ve ever used for one big day?
Oh wow that’s a tough one! Typically our weddings can have around 5000 stems easily! A typical wedding could have 2000 roses .
If you were to plan a wedding for all four seasons, what would be your go to seasonal flower for each
Spring- ranunculus, tulips, hyacinths Summer-peony hydrangeas stocks delphinium Autumn dahlia protea roses Winter hellebores syringa Christmas roses
How far in advance would a new client need to begin planning their flowers to ensure everything is in place for their special day?
We take bookings up to 2 years in advance so whatever is comfortable for the client . Details aren’t finalised until 8 weeks before.
